Abstract

Objective: The eight years of Sacred Defense have resulted in creating the most extensive literary works in the field of resistance literature in Persian literature. In the imposed war of Iraq against Iran, the people of our country created various and profound epic manifestations of resistance and defense, which have been described in various artistic and literary works, including poetry. These poems, which often have an epic aspect and approach, are known as the poetry of Sacred Defense. In this article, symbols of the epic aspect and concepts arising from it in the poetry of Sacred Defense by Abdoljabbar Kakaei and Mohammad Reza Abdolmalekian are examined.
Methods: This research is based on eight poetry books by Abdoljabbar Kakaei and six poetry books by Mohammadreza Abdolmalekian. This research is conducted in a descriptive-analytical method and the data was collected through documentary method and by means of a sheet-writing tool.
Results: In these poems, the main theme is the defense of the homeland against enemy aggression and the explanation of the ideals of the martyrs.  The poems of these two poets do not fit into the literary genre of epic, but they have some characteristics and approaches of the epic. That is, they are close to epic in terms of content and theme.
