Abstract
Thinking simultaneously of humor and battlefield is hardly expectable; however, the most genuine jokes can be seen in this very battlefield verbal culture in a simple and sensitive form which has rarely been paid attention to. This witticism can be categorized into four classes; namely, devotional, fight and martyrdom, drinking and eating, and social interactions which have the most similitude to humor creating techniques. Although the warriors lacked the theoretical principles in creating humor, they have employed all three kinds of humor; verbal, visual, and textual. However, the wit from a worldview point and the application of language, description, and image is under the influence of war and battlefield atmosphere.
The present study with a qualitative and an inductive generalization method and a content analysis approach tries to investigate the book “Battlefield Culture (Witticism)” to analyze the methods of creating humor in battlefield.
